Press and hold the FUNC button until it changes in the meter screen (LCD), then release.
Press it again and you can view the different menu functions available each time you press it.
If you think you fuked things up, turn off the radio and pour a beer into the speaker holes. OR, turn off the radio, press all 3 buttons (FUNC, COLOR, SCAN) together while turning the radio on. It will reset.
GRO – This radio has 480 channels.
12 bands of 40 channels.
Regular 40 channels are band D.
First option is A-E, second option is F-L.
ASQ – Automatic Squelch Control. It does not work well with AM and meant for FM modulation. Options are Off or On. I’d keep it off.
Beep – Off or On. When on, a beep is heard when you change any settings. I keep it on because hitting the AM/FM switch accidentally, which happens way too much, it gives you a heads up of that you fuked up.
TOT – Transmitting Time. The default is 180 seconds which means you can talk for 180 seconds before it will stop transmitting (long winded fuk). If you change it down to 30, you’ll probably get cut off before saying all you want to say, just saying,
SCM – SQ or TI. When is scan mode, SQ will stop and remain on that channel when a signal is received. TI, it will wait for 5 seconds and start scanning again whether or not a signal is present.
SCT – Scan time
TRS – turns SWR protection off or on. You’re an asshole if you turn it off.
TDC – DC protection. I have it to go off at 9 volts to say DC LOW, 16 volts says DC HIGH. Again you can turn it off, but why would you?
LCD – you can choose your Programed name, the voltage, or rotate both. I set it at both.
LOPT – .05 to 10 seconds. Default 1 second for rotating your name and voltage as indicated in the LCD option above.
FUNT – allows you to choose how long the function menu stays visible in case you’re retarted.
TTON – keep it at 4 Khz, kinda a jerk off setting since the audio bandwidth of all radios is 2.5K.
VOXL – This changes the sensitivity of VOX, Voice Operated Transmit. When you talk, the radio transmits until it doesn’t get an audio signal, then stops. Many dumb fuks will go “ahhhhhhh, hmmmmm, just to keep transmitting. Hold the mic and use the PTT (push to talk).
VOXT – puts a delay on your VOX not to cut you off. Stop being a lazy bastard and use the mic!
MIC – DY EL – you can choose between a dynamic mic, DY, as are noise cancelling or stock mics. If you choose EL and if you don’t have an electret mic, you’ll sound like shit
COMP – Receiver Noise Filter, keep it on.
.Gate – reduces Transmit background noise, keep it on.
RNRC – Receiver noise reduction adjustable between 1-5. You can turn it on with the NRC switch on the front panel.
TNRC – Transmit audio noise reduction adjustable between 1-5 and is also turned on the NRC switch.
ALER ON – alerts you to a weather alert. Why would you turn it off?
WXSQ – weather squelch setting.
VFO – Variable Frequency Oscillator, allows you to slide anywhere you want, 1 Khz, 5 Khz, 10 Khz, 100 Khz, 1 Mhz. If you’re driving, it’s a pain in the balls to have it at 1 Khz
